back in school
I haven’t written in a while. I have been sick and then, when I got back to work, I was just too busy to try to catch up here, too.
I never got my degree. I think, for me, it the one failure that I feel so acutely that it actually hurts. It is the one thing, while growing up, that I always wanted. I didn’t want to be famous. I didn’t want riches. I wanted to get my bachelors, my masters, and probably my doctorate. I’m a school kind of person. I like studying. I like learning new things.
I understand that I learn new things while living life but, for me, it’s just not the same.
I found out, a few weeks ago, that I’m only 2 classes from getting my AA. Yeah, yeah…it’s only an Associate’s degree but, for me, it’s a start. It means that I’m that much closer to my bachelor’s degree.
Last night I began one of the classes that I need to graduate, Sociology 210, Sociology of Gender. I think it’s going to be a good class. The people seem to be really enthusiastic and it’s fully participatory which I like. I enjoy hearing other peoples’ perspectives.
It’s only a four week class but that might be a good thing. It allows me to get through it and still have a semblance of a summer to play with if I decide to do that.
I’m also taking an introduction to computer systems because the university I am transferring to requires it for all undergrads. That class is online, thankfully, and I can go at my own pace. I’ve already completed two quizzes and I’m sure I’ll be done with the class quicker than the 10 weeks it lasts.
My favorite class for this summer, though, is the Body Conditioning class which is an extension of the Pilates that I began a few weeks ago. It is such a great class and a wonderful way to break up my day. I’m at work from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. (with classes after work) and having the Pilates at noon is a really wonderful refresher.
I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about my school as I go through the semester.
