My office is starting to smell like a Mexican restaurant. I’ve got pork, tomatoes, cilantro, onions, chili powder, oregano, and cumin slow cooking in a crockpot in my office for the potluck today. Today is my boss’s last day. We are sending him off in a grand way…saying goodbye with a party. He will be missed. I know that I will miss him. I’ve grown attached over the last year and I feel like crying today. Crying over a boss. That’s a new one for me.

I saw the woman who delivers newspapers to me this morning. I don’t usually see her. I tend to leave for work before she delivers the newspaper. This morning, she was early. She’s really sweet and I like her. I’d like to think we’d be friends if we lived near one another. She calls to me by name and I like that she remembers my name. Today, she warned me of the elk that were all over the roads. She wanted to make sure I was safe as I left for work. That was so amazing of her. This woman who only knows me by my newspaper subscription took a moment to be thoughtful.
