The deer and elk I grew up around are part of what I have to do without here now, but we have moose and other wildlife. I wouldn’t live in a city for anything.

I’ve never seen an elk up close either, though at my parents’ place in Colorado the mule deer wander by the house a lot and you can hear the elk sometimes.

i love deer. i see at least one every morning when i take my walk. they're elegant creatures. and i love the taste of them, too. especially twixt a biscuit! but i've neither seen nor eaten an elk or moose or impala or anything like that. just deer.

Most Excellent scans!! BTW the last one of the bull in the apple tree is of him trying to peer out through the leaves and see where the HELL that clicking sound was coming from…LOL ~~ He finally lowered his head to his knees and saw me and at that point bolted and got the hell outta Dodge. They move with grace and with hardly any sound of hoof beat. Tell ya the truth I feel the same way bout cows when I’m up close. ‘s’ Great blog branwyn!

When was the last time you were last blown away by the majestic presence of a cow? ;-)

I love wildlife, and I likewise grew up eating venison, and still do. I think being a part of a hunting family gives you a different perspective on wild meat - it gives you a lot of respect for the animals that provide you with sustenance. My step-father, not a terribly religious man, hunts often, and before and after every animal he takes down, he prays and thanks the animal for providing our family with food. It's touching to watch and take part in.

We don’t get many elk here in Mississippi, but we do see a lot of deer. The only time I don’t want to see them is in the headlight path of my car. :-P
