photo tuesday ~ down

0

I knew this was the right picture the minute I saw the theme for this week’s photo tuesday. I had briefly considered an image looking down the stairs or down the mountain or even my down comforter. But as I perused my images, I immediately thought of Justice.

I was babysitting and Justice went from 60 to 0 in about 2 minutes. Plop! Down he went. I couldn’t resist clicking off a few images and getting him in repose. He’s so beautiful to me and when he’s sleeping, he’s incredibly sweet. I want to reach out and kiss him in this picture.

I actually got this idea from daisies. She took a series of images while at her dentist’s office and I found them charming and interesting.

The dentist, for me, symbolizes paralyzing fear and pain. I start shaking before I reach the office. My stomach is upset. My teeth are clenched. My muscles are tight. At times, I can be in the midsts of a full-on panic attack.

However, this time I went to a new dentist and told him about my anxieties. I’m also there to take care of an issue that bothers me and that limits my ability to be carefree in smiling as much as I’d like. This time I approach it with fear and with excitement.

And, luckily, my new dentist is willing to help me through both.

This is really cute. I hope this person doesn’t mind this being done to his pictures.

I had actually posted this image last week and just loved it. I printed it out and gave it to a friend who is taking her first drawing class and she loved it.

It was my first foray into the heavy post-processing of my images. While it was fun, I still really like the natural look of most of my images without post-processing done in imaging software.

I keep reading that people look at them as tools in their craft but I find that nature has so much to offer that is stunning and beautiful and I’m not sure why we need to improve upon that.

Photography while driving on a rural highway during a snowstorm is not recommended. However, given that, it seems that so many of the great shots are happening while I’m passing by in my car.

I loved how the sun was shining on Mount Elden in the middle of this snow storm, making it glow. I also am loving the color of the clouds lately. They make me think of amazing mixes of watercolors or oil paintings. The depth and various colors of them really is beautiful.

dissociate

verb ~ to disconnect, disunite

“It would be naive to suggest that the success of an idea can be totally dissociated from the personality of the man or woman who propounds it.” ~ Ronald W. Clark, The Survival of Charles Darwin

Did you know? –> Both “dissociate” and disassociate” can mean “to separate from association or union with another.” “Associate” is from Latin ad-, meaning “to,” and sociare, meaning “to join.” “Dis-” means “to do the opposite of.” So both dissociate” and “disassociate” indicate severing that which is united, but some commentators argue that “disassociate” is illogical because it indicates separating and uniting simultaneously. “Dissociate” is slightly older, dating from 1582; “disassociate” dates from 1603. “Dissociate” is recommended by a number of commentators on the ground that it’s shorter — not the firmest ground for that decision.

willow & justice

I was over at my brother’s house to babysit Justice while Jennifer went to tae kwon do with Willow. Willow was showing me what Justice liked to do with his Potato-Head Family container (a very large bucket that holds Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head and baby Potato Head).

After they left, Justice did exactly what Willow showed me and kept putting it over his head. Then he’d hand it to me and want me to put it over my head (which, of course, being the good aunt that I am, I did). He would giggle and giggle and then want it back for his own head. I found this extremely cute.

Justice is such a treasure and sweet little boy. He’s a joy to hang out with and he had me giggling for the entire time I was there.

I sent a card with this picture to Jonathan for his birthday. I wanted to send him something that was representative of his year. This year has brought many changes for him.

When one door closes, another opens. Life is full of new opportunities and new experiences and all we have to do is step through that door and see what awaits us beyond the threshold.
