bundy
0I think that Bundy musical instruments are the most well-known and most widely-used instruments in public schools in the United States. It seems that everyone has either owned, borrowed, used, (or knows someone who has) a Bundy.

This is my Bundy instrument: the middle section of my flute.
Pulling out my flute once again for a number of pictures made me smile. I haven’t played it in many years because I was wearing braces and just couldn’t get my embouchure right. Now that the braces are gone, I should give it a whirl.
I wonder…is it just like riding a bike?
filters
0Okay, so this is like the coolest thing ever.
Recently a co-worker bought the same camera as me because she liked mine so much (well, it is pretty darn cool!). She bought her camera on ebay and the seller sent about 40 random filters with it. My co-worker went through the filters and found that there were many doubles. She gave me all of the doubles.
I now have:
- red
- yellow
- orange
- green
- blue
- amber
Don’t be surprised if you see some funky cool effects showing up in my photography!
granite
0
I will admit that I pulled this image out of my archives. I didn’t get enough pictures this weekend and I was hoping for a Photo Tuesday but it seems that the site is down so I didn’t have a theme to go by today. Maybe it will come up and I’ll get something done for that theme.
I took this image at my brother’s house in Tempe. It is the granite surface that surrounds his outdoor barbecue/cooking area. I took this in December and the winter glow was just lovely.

argh!
0I’ve been playing with the design of my site a lot lately. I’m not entirely happy with it, truth be told. I hate the inconsistencies between the blog, the photoblog, and the gallery to the rest of the site. If I knew how to program in PHP and write CSS code (rather than just tweak them), I’d write my own CMS.
See…that’s what I want. I want a good blog CMS that does galleries (with e-cards, comments, etc), daily photoblogs (with comments allowed and all of the other things like EXIF information) , blog (with links, comments, etc), and about/links/whatever pages.
That’s what I want. If anyone out there knows of a good one, let me know. I”d rather have one whole package that looks good and works well than piecing together all of the pieces that I want.
I’ve looked at Moveable Type and it doesn’t do all I want. I’ve looked at Nucleus and BlogCMS and they don’t quite do it, either.
What I would like to be able to do is to write in my blog and link to the picture in my photoblog (or vice versa) as well as have any picture I load into my photoblog be automatically loaded into my gallery.
Any good links are appreciated!
moody monday ~ protective

I know, I know. Having a picture of a dog for protection is cliche’. It’s not the picture I wanted. I wanted a picture of Jonathan’s arms securely around me or his hand over mine. Or, even as he suggested, a beautiful picture of his hand. That, to me, is protection.
Dakota, while I love him to bits, probably wouldn’t protect me against anything. He’s as wimpy as I am. :-) But I love him and I love it when he gets protective. This is HIS property. No one or nothing else should dare to cross into it without his permission!
macroday ~ light
0I wanted to do something different than taking pictures of lightbulbs, lights, and flames for the macroday theme of light. I looked at the definitions of “light” at dictionary.com:
light n
1. Physics.
a. Electromagnetic radiation that has a wavelength in the range from about 4,000 (violet) to about 7,700 (red) angstroms and may be perceived by the normal unaided human eye.
b. Electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength.
2. The sensation of perceiving light; brightness: a sudden light that made me blink.
3. a. A source of light, especially a lamp, a lantern, or an electric lighting fixture: Turn out the lights when you leave.
b. The illumination derived from a source of light: by the light of the moon.
c. The particular quantity or quality of such illumination: moved the lamp closer to get better light.
4. The pathway or route of such illumination to a person: You’re standing in his light.
4. A mechanical device that uses illumination as a signal or warning, especially a beacon or traffic signal.
5. a. Daylight.
b. Dawn; daybreak.
6. Something, such as a window, that admits illumination.
7. Architecture. One of two or more openings in a window divided by a mullion or mullions.
8. A source of fire, such as a match or cigarette lighter.
9. Spiritual awareness; illumination.
10. a. Something that provides information or clarification: threw some light on the question.
b. A state of awareness or understanding, especially as derived from a particular source: in the light of experience.
11. Public attention; general knowledge: brought the scandal to light.
12. A way of looking at or considering a matter; an aspect: saw the situation in a different light.
13. Archaic. Eyesight.
14. lights One’s individual opinions, choices, or standards: acted according to their own lights.
15. A person who inspires or is adored by another: My daughter is the light of my life.
16. A prominent or distinguished person; a luminary: one of the leading lights of the theater.
17. An expression of the eyes: a strange light in her eyes.
18. Light In Quaker doctrine, the guiding spirit or divine presence in each person.
19. The representation of light in art.
So, I wanted to go with the points that I put in bold. I wanted to pick up the dawning light of the morning sun…but how to do that in macro? If I could find a point to illuminate that might work.
Jonathan suggested finding something moving towards the light, like plants or bugs or something like that. However, given that the ground is still frozen and I couldn’t see any bugs at all. I couldn’t find any bugs or new plants but I found this.

I found what I could on this hazy, storm-awaiting, heavy clouded day. I love how the light illuminates the delicate strands and how the clouds glow in the background. It’s actually about an inch or less in length and this image makes it look huge (one of the things I love about macro!) It’s not perfect but at least I made the attempt.
morning musing
0I am sensitive. I am sentimental. I am a wounded heart and a beating heart and an expanding heart all at once.
I am touched. I am analytical. I am emotional and realistic in one bundle.
I want more. I want less. I want all of it and none of it and still hunger.
I want to be. I want to feel. I want to feel and be and taste and gorge and ache and cry and beg
for more
and less.

Her Kind
Anne Sexton
I have gone out, a possessed witch,
haunting the black air, braver at night;
dreaming evil, I have done my hitch
over the plain houses, light by light:
lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind.
A woman like that is not a woman, quite.
I have been her kind.
I have found the warm caves in the woods,
filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves,
closets, silks, innumerable goods;
fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves:
whining, rearranging the disaligned.
A woman like that is misunderstood.
I have been her kind.
I have ridden in your cart, driver,
waved my nude arms at villages going by,
learning the last bright routes, survivor
where your flames still bite my thigh
and my ribs crack where your wheels wind.
A woman like that is not ashamed to die.
I have been her kind.

0The Letter
PJ Harvey
Put the pen
To the paper
Press the envelope
With my scent
Can’t you see
In my handwriting
The curve of my g?
The longing
Oh
Who is left
That writes these days?
But you and me
We’ll be different
Take the cap
Off your pen
Wet the envelope
Lick and lick it
Oh
I need you
The time is running out
Oh baby
Can’t you hear me call?
It turns me on
To imagine
Your blue eyes
On my words
Your beautiful pen
Take the cap off
Give me a sign
I’d come running
Oh
It’s you
I want you
